Yesterday I led a letter with Rep. Adams requesting a full investigation into the May 7th cyber-attack on the Colonial Pipeline — which delivers approximately 45% of all fuel consumed on the East Coast. I will continue to monitor the situation and hope we get this resolved as soon as possible.
I’m closely monitoring the impacts of the Colonial Pipeline cyber-attack and reports of gas shortages in Raleigh. At this time, it’s important to only fill your tank if it’s necessary. If you suspect price gouging, please report it to the NC Attorney General’s office. I’m encouraged by the Department of Energy’s efforts and am hopeful we can get this resolved quickly.
As a member of the House Caucus on India and Indian Americans, I sent a letter to President Biden last week requesting more aid for India as they are experiencing the deadly second wave of COVID-19. So many people are suffering needlessly. Helping India respond to this latest wave is humane and is in our national interest, as this pandemic will not end anywhere until it ends everywhere. During this critical time, please consider supporting groups like The Desai Foundation that are providing what is needed locally on the ground, https://thedesaifoundation.org.
Great news — The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that, thanks to the American Rescue Plan, North Carolina is receiving more than $5.4 billion. These funds provide support for North Carolina households, small businesses, impacted industries, essential workers, and the communities hit hardest by the pandemic.
My mother was a member of the League of Women Voters during the height of the Women’s Rights Movement. She was frustrated by the lack of female representation in office at the local level so she got her friends to run and vote together. This impacted me greatly as a young girl and encouraged me to get involved and later run for public office. My mother has been a constant inspiration to me. Today, I send my love to all mothers who inspire their children everyday.
Restaurants play an essential role in our economy and sense of community. I advocated for more assistance to help them through the pandemic. President Biden’s Restaurant Revitalization Fund is a critical resource in keeping restaurants open during our recovery.
Great news — the American Families Plan will help North Carolinians. Here’s what’s in the package: ✅ Provides at least 2 years of free community college to all students ✅ Gives access to free, high-quality pre-school to all 3- and 4-year-olds ✅ Invests $9 billion in our teachers ✅ Creates a national, comprehensive paid family and medical leave program
Thank you to North Carolina’s research universities for your commitment to meeting the growing needs of data science research, education, and workforce in the Research Triangle. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all sectors in North Carolina, bearing a burden on our economy. I am confident that higher education will advance the economy and help attract good jobs. NC State recently launched the Data Science Academy — a crucial tool for research partnerships.
Congratulations to the students and staff of Wiley Elementary School for being named the top magnet elementary school in the nation for the second time in five years. As the Representative for North Carolina’s 2nd District, who lives less than a mile from Wiley, I appreciate that Wake County is a leader in education, excellence, and community values. Keep up the great work.
