Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy and we can’t have fair elections without fair maps. North Carolina is an evenly divided state, and we should have a congressional delegation that reflects our citizens.

The map passed by the NC General Assembly was clearly drawn to favor Republican candidates while silencing the voices of thousands of North Carolina voters. It is the product of an extreme partisan gerrymandering process that is being used to help Republicans win more easily with the ultimate goal of reclaiming control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

This map does not represent the best interests of North Carolinians. Members of both parties could have worked together in good faith to develop a fair map that reflects the people of this state. North Carolinians deserve fair maps and a transparent redistricting process. They got neither.

North Carolina voters should get to choose their elected representatives. Instead, this map is another case of our elected representatives choosing their voters.
