Women’s History Month
Today, for #WomensHistoryMonth, I’m highlighting the late Elizabeth Cofield. For decades, Cofield served as a professor and administrator at Shaw University, where she inspired thousands of students. She went on to be the first African American and the first woman elected as a Wake County School Board member and Wake County Commissioner. Cofield’s legacy and commitment […]
The Players’ Retreat
A spotlight on the iconic Raleigh restaurant, The Players’ Retreat owned by my friend Gus Gussler. Like many businesses, the restaurant has plans to safely reopen this spring after being closed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I can’t wait to have their fries again soon!
George Floyd Justice in Policing Act
The House passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, and I proudly voted for it. This is an important step in boosting law enforcement accountability and transparency, changing police practices and curbing racial profiling. It’s on all of us to help create a society that recognizes injustice and repairs it with humanity.
More Positive Vaccine News
Starting today, all NC frontline workers are eligible to get vaccinated. Additionally, starting in three weeks people with underlying health conditions will be eligible to get vaccinated. I am thankful to all those working hard to get North Carolinians vaccinated as quickly as possible.
For the People Act

Congratulations to my friend Dr. Bobbie Richardson on her election to State Party Chair of NC!

Positive news from the Wake County Division of Public Health.
https://www.wral.com/coronavirus/wake-county-expects-40-increase-in-covid-19-vaccine-allotment-next-week/19547809/ Until we are all vaccinated, we still have a responsibility to remain vigilant and do our part. Remember the 3 W’s: Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Watch your distance. We will all get through this as long as we care for each other.
The #EqualityAct passed the House!
The bill amends federal civil rights laws to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, education, housing, credit, jury service, public accommodations, and federal funding. I’m proud to be a cosponsor of the bill and support the rights of the LGBTQ community nationwide.
