Congratulations to my friend Elizabeth Biser on her appointment to lead the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality. I have known and worked with her for more than 15 years. She will be an outstanding leader and steward of the environment.
Yesterday, I toured the Southeastern Carpenters training facility and learned about the many ways the Brotherhood is keeping up with the demands of today’s construction industry through their innovation and workforce development programs. These programs are attracting veterans, women, minorities, and youth who will be the next generation of skilled construction professionals. I look forward to passing the bipartisan infrastructure bill that will grow the economy and create more good-paying jobs.
I’ve spent much of my career working to advance the right to vote. Yesterday, I was pleased to see that North Carolina judges restored voting rights to an estimated 55,000 North Carolinians on parole or probation. Today, I look forward to bringing about change at the federal level by voting in support of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
