Last week, voters across the country proved once again that when access to safe abortion is on the line, we show up and make our voices heard.
The wide gap between our values and the GOP House majority’s agenda is strikingly clear. They’ve been on an all-out mission to destroy reproductive rights nationwide, and electing anti-abortion extremist Mike Johnson as Speaker was their latest ploy.
At a Judiciary Committee hearing earlier this year, Johnson said that banning abortion would help shore up Medicare and Social Security by funneling more “able-bodied workers into the economy.” He also co-sponsored a bill to defund Planned Parenthood, and he championed Louisiana’s abortion bill which allows doctors to be jailed for performing abortions.
I have stood in defense of reproductive freedom my entire career and I’m not backing down now. Republicans like Mike Johnson have shown their hand and made it clear that they only have one priority: controlling our bodies.
Let’s show anti-abortion extremists that we won’t let them continue to weaponize health care to gain power.
