Today we honor and observe Juneteenth, the oldest continuous celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

Juneteenth is a day of reflection and rejoicing. In the North Carolina State Legislature, I celebrated Juneteenth with my friend, Rep. Larry Womble, who passed away last year. Larry spent his life advocating for racial justice and education equality in North Carolina, and our community misses him dearly.

I hope to carry on Larry’s legacy and continue building on our work together in Congress. I will continue to fight for justice and the rights of all people.
