Today in 1965, the Voting Rights Act was signed into law. Civil rights leaders like Congressman John Lewis fought hard for this victory. He, along with many other brave leaders, put their lives on the line to protect the right to vote for communities of color across the country.

We need federal laws in place to combat voter suppression and ensure that every voice is heard in every election. As a state legislator, I worked to protect and expand voting rights. In Congress, I’m fighting around the clock to pass legislation that will protect our fundamental right to vote.
