Today marks one year since George Floyd’s life was taken at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer. In the weeks and months that followed, millions of Americans took to the streets in one of the largest movements in American history to protest and demand justice.

The fight for justice and truth should never be stopped or silenced. In March, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act passed the House and I proudly co-sponsored and voted for it. The bill is now in the hands of the Senate. Passing this bill would be a first step in reforming our police system.

We must all pay attention to this moment. We must understand that it’s on all of us to achieve progress and deliver justice. There’s hard work ahead to create a society that recognizes injustice and repairs it with humanity, but together we can move forward.
