We did it!
I’m so incredibly honored the people of North Carolina’s 2nd District have elected me to represent them in Congress.
I want to thank you for being by my side since Day One of this campaign, for stepping up time and again to chip in a few dollars or take action when it was needed most to fuel our movement. Most of all, I want to thank you for voting and making your voice heard.
This campaign has been about fighting for equality, justice, and progress — together. The people of Wake County and our supporters from across North Carolina and the country worked tirelessly to flip this seat blue. Members of ALL communities came together to move us forward.
It’s clear the people of Wake County want to bring decency, integrity, and compassion back to our government. They want leaders who put the people first, who do the right thing no matter what.
In the North Carolina General Assembly, I was never afraid to work with anyone and everyone to get things done to improve people’s lives, and that’s exactly what I’ll do in Congress. I will never lose sight of our district’s people or our priorities.
This is a victory not only for our campaign, but also for so many people in our community. For families struggling in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, trying to balance working from home with their children’s remote learning. For small businesses that need more COVID-19 relief to keep from closing.
This is a victory for the college students who are worried about job opportunities and student loan debt. For the seniors who depend on the Social Security benefits they earned over a lifetime of hard work. For our County Commissioners who have stepped up and worked to keep us and our elections safe, and who need federal support.
This is a victory for all of us. Tonight, we celebrate. But tomorrow, we get right back to work to keep fighting for affordable, accessible health care that covers people with preexisting conditions and lowers the costs of prescription drugs. We fight to stop the spread of coronavirus so we can get people back to work and school SAFELY.
We fight to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare, to ensure economic security for every generation. We fight to address systemic inequities that have plagued our communities for generations.
I cannot wait to be a team player for all of North Carolina, and work with anyone and everyone to improve the lives of the people of Wake County, our state, and our country.
Washington won’t change me — together, we are going to change Washington.
