Voting Rights Act
President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law on August 6, 1965. On the anniversary of this monumental piece of legislation, we celebrate the fights that have been won, but acknowledge the work ahead. The right to vote is a cornerstone of our democracy. We must restore the fundamental guarantees of the Voting Rights Act and stop discriminatory voting practices, like racial gerrymandering and restrictive voter ID laws.
